Mercedes-Benz’s performance arm AMG has been working on a more powerful version of the A45 AMG, and the 2016 Mercedes-AMG A45 will be available in the base and the S model with more power.

The current Mercedes-AMG A45 boasts 355 hp @ 6,000 rpm and 332 lb-ft of torque @ 2,250-5,000 rpm which enables the hot hatch to go from 0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds, however Audi’s new RS3 is powered by a 2.5 liter Turbo inline five engine that produces 367 hp @ 6800 rpm and 343 lb-ft of torque @ 1625 rpm and enables the RS3 to propel from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds.

The 2016 Mercedes-AMG A45 S will produce 400 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque to reclaim the king of hot-hatch title.

Audi’s parent company is currently working on a 395 hp VW Golf R400 which just like the 2016 Mercedes-AMG A45 uses a 2.0 liter turbo four.

There are rumors that in-order to take the fight to the 400 hp 2016 Mercedes-AMG A45 S, Audi is working on a more powerful RS3 Plus which will be lighter and more powerful than the current model.

The rumored Audi RS3 Plus is to produce over 400 hp, with 0-60 mph of 3.6 seconds.
